The sea of clouds forms when warm, moist air from the valleys below rises and condenses into a thick cloud layer that settles below Huangshan's 1,800-meter summit. From above, you look down on a billowing white sea where only the highest peaks pierce through like rocky islands. It appears most often from November to May, especially on the day after rainfall — that is your best bet. Winter and early spring bring the most dramatic displays, with thick, low clouds that fill the valleys completely.
