Itinerary
Dujiangyan & Mount Qingcheng
07:30 — Hotel pickup in Chengdu. About a 90-minute drive to Dujiangyan.
09:00 – 12:00 — Dujiangyan Irrigation System. Enter from Qinyan Tower at the top, so you walk downhill the whole time — much easier than climbing up. See the iconic Fish Mouth, Flying Sand Weir, and Bottle-Neck Channel, three components that have tamed the Min River for over two millennia. Your guide explains how this 2,200-year-old system still works without any modern dams.
12:00 – 13:00 — Lunch in Guanxian Old Town, a preserved historic district right next to Dujiangyan. Try authentic Sichuan dishes at a local restaurant (lunch not included, your guide helps you order).
13:30 – 17:00 — Mount Qingcheng Front Mountain, the birthplace of Taoism and one of China's most sacred Taoist sites. Take the cable car up to save your legs, then walk down through a forest of thousand-year-old cypress trees, passing temples like Tianshi Cave and Shangqing Palace along the way. The mountain air, moss-covered stone steps, and distant peaks all contribute to the feeling that you've stepped into a traditional Chinese landscape painting.
17:30 — Head back to Chengdu. You'll be dropped off at your hotel around 19:00.
Want to add a traditional Sichuan opera experience? We can drop you at the Shu Feng Ya Yun theater (show starts at 20:00) on the way back — just add the $30/person opera ticket add-on when you book. After the show (around 21:30), you'll make your own way back to your hotel (taxi about $3-5). Contact us to customize.

Good to Know
What to Bring: Comfortable walking shoes (you'll be on your feet for 4-5 hours), sun protection, a light rain jacket (Mount Qingcheng can be misty), and a reusable water bottle. Pack light — you'll be carrying everything with you on the mountain.
Best Time to Go: March through June and September through November offer the best weather for this Dujiangyan and Mount Qingcheng day trip from Chengdu. Spring (March–May) brings mild temperatures and blooming flowers, while autumn (September–November) has the clearest mountain views and comfortable walking weather. July and August are hot, humid, and rainy in Sichuan — avoid them if your schedule is flexible. Winter (December–February) is colder but quieter with fewer crowds.
How to Book: This is a private tour — just you and your group. Contact us with your dates and group size, and we'll confirm availability within 24 hours. Book at least 3 days in advance. Payment is straightforward, and you'll get a full refund if we can't run the tour for any reason.
Fitness Level: Moderate — expect 4-5 hours of walking, including stone steps on Mount Qingcheng. The cable car takes you most of the way up, so you walk mostly downhill, but it's still a fair amount of steps. Not recommended for people with mobility issues.
