Overview

Leave Beijing's crowds behind. We hit the road at 7am to beat the traffic, driving 70km north to Mutianyu — the most beautiful section of the Great Wall, and the one locals actually visit. Your English guide walks the Wall with you, explaining the history of each watchtower as you hike. 4-5 hours of real hiking. This is how you do the Wall.

Itinerary

Day 1

Mutianyu Great Wall Day Trip

7:00 AM — Pick-up (within 4th Ring Road, Beijing)

8:30-9:00 AM — Arrival at Mutianyu

9:00 AM — Hiking the West Route
Hike up the North Trail from Tower 10. Walk through Towers 11-19, loop around to Towers 21-23. (Tower 20 is under restoration.) Towers 21 to 23 is newly unveiled and more original. Our hiking guide will lead you safely along the Great Wall with fun historical stories.
By the way, eat your packed lunch on the Wall.

1:00-2:00 PM — Hike down the Wall

2:30 PM — Depart for Beijing

4:00 PM — Drop-off at your hotel

What's Included

What's Not Included

  • Lunch (bring your own packed lunch — no food available at the Wall)
  • Cable car up and down ($15 one-way, $20 two-ways. we can book for you)
  • Tips for guide/driver (appreciated but not required)

Good to Know

  • Physical level: Moderate to challenging. 6-7km of hiking. If you want less walking, you can choose Cable cars.
  • Route: Toboggan is not available on this west route, but we also have the East Route available if you would like to take it.
  • Weather: Tours run rain or shine. Check forecast and dress in layers.
  • What to wear: Hiking shoes or sneakers with good grip. No flip-flops.
  • What to bring: Packed lunch and water. Nothing to buy up at the Wall.
  • Best season: March–November. Summer (July–August) can be hot (30°C+).
