Itinerary

Day 1

Shanghai Shikumen & North Bund Day Tour

Two sessions available: Morning (9:30 AM – ~4:00 PM) or Afternoon (1:30 PM – ~8:00 PM). Meeting point: Sichuan North Road Metro Station (Line 10), Exit 3. End point: International Cruise Terminal Metro Station (Line 10).

Shikumen Culture & Hai Pai Heritage
Explore Jin Chao 8 Nong (今潮8弄), a restored Shikumen lane house complex of 60 buildings and 8 heritage structures. Your guide shares stories of the Cantonese merchants who built the first lane houses, the famous residents who lived here, and how Shanghai's "Hai Pai" (海派) culture — absorbing the world and making it your own — was born in places like these.

Xiaolongbao Workshop & Meal
Learn the centuries-old art of xiaolongbao from a local master in a traditional lane house kitchen. Master the dough, the filling, and the signature pleating — then feast on your freshly made crab roe xiaolongbao (蟹粉小笼包) with Shanghainese small wontons (上海特色小馌饨).
(Default: pork filling. Vegetarian options available — inform us in advance.)

Choose Your Cultural Experience (inside historic Shikumen spaces)
Option A: Tai Chi & Chinese Herbal Tea — Begin with Huangjing tea (黄精茶), a herbal tonic from nine-times-steamed Polygonatum. Then learn Tai Chi fundamentals, breathing, and philosophy with a master.
Option B: VR Chinese Culture Experience — A cutting-edge virtual reality journey through China's beloved legends. Ancient myths come alive around you.

Zhapu Road Heritage Citywalk
Walk south along one of Shanghai's most historically layered streets:
Nishi Hongan-ji Temple (西本愿寺) — A 1931 Buddhist temple in Indian Ajanta Cave style, with flame-shaped arches, lotus reliefs, and bird carvings.
Victory Cinema (胜利电影院) — Originally the Hollywood Theatre (1929). Writer Lu Xun visited six times. Restored in 2023.
Pearce Apartments (披亚斯公寓) — A 1931 Art Deco building with red brick facades, Ionic columns, and a grand enclosed courtyard.

Zhapu Road Bridge — Where Suzhou Creek Meets the Huangpu
Stand on Zhapu Road Bridge for one of the best vantage points in the city. See Suzhou Creek (苏州河) — the 125 km waterway that once marked Shanghai's international settlement boundary — flowing into the Huangpu River. The iconic Garden Bridge (外白渡桥), built in 1907 as China's first all-steel riveted bridge, spans the creek's mouth. Perfect spot to photograph old and new Shanghai in a single frame. Afternoon session: watch the sunset paint the sky gold.

North Bund Riverside Promenade
Descend to the newly renovated North Bund waterfront — a 2.5 km riverside path that opened in 2024. Unlike the crowded classic Bund across the river, this is where locals come for their evening stroll. Unobstructed panoramic views of both Puxi (colonial Bund buildings) and Pudong (Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai Tower, Jin Mao Tower). Part of Shanghai's "Golden Triangle" waterfront. Afternoon session: watch the city lights come on.

Note: For the afternoon session, the order of the xiaolongbao workshop and Tai Chi / VR experience will be swapped. Please specify morning or afternoon when booking.
