Overview
This tour connects three layers of Beijing in a single walk. First, you visit the imperial Temple of Heaven. Then, you explore the living street culture of Dashilan and Yangmeizhu Xiejie. Finally, you browse Liulichang — China's oldest stationery quarter.
The experience is designed for travelers who want more than a postcard view. In other words, you will actually understand what you are seeing. Your local guide knows when to talk and when to let you just soak it in.

Itinerary
Temple of Heaven, Dashilan & Liulichang
Morning session: 8:00-12:00 (base itinerary)
Afternoon session: 13:00-17:00 (base itinerary)
Meet: Tiantandongmen Station (Line 5)
Stop 1: Temple of Heaven
Enter from the east gate and walk the central axis to visit the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, the Danbi Bridge, the Echo Wall, and the Circular Mound Altar. Your guide explains the rituals behind these structures and the hidden numerology in their design.
Stop 2: Dashilan & Yangmeizhu Xiejie
Walk from the west gate of the Temple of Heaven to one of Beijing's oldest commercial streets. Dashilan retains the facades and signage of many century-old shops — your guide narrates their stories as you pass by. Then turn into Yangmeizhu Xiejie, a narrow 500-meter alley once home to Qing dynasty scholars and poets, now lined with indie bookshops, craft workshops, and cafés — the most literary hutong in old Beijing.
If you have added the cultural experience add-on for the morning session, we recommend trying some local street snacks here for lunch, such as zhajiangmian (fried sauce noodles), jianbing (Chinese crepe), or ludagun (glutinous rice cake dusted with soybean flour) — authentic flavors that are easy on any palate.
Stop 3: Liulichang Culture Street
Stroll along Liulichang Culture Street, once a gathering place for scholars heading to imperial exams and China's center of brush, ink, paper, and inkstone trade for centuries. Your guide brings you through this uniquely scholarly atmosphere.
Dismiss: Hepingmen Station (Line 2)
The tour ends near Liulichang, a 5-minute walk to Hepingmen Station (Line 2).
Optional Add-on: Traditional Cultural Experience ($45/person)
Add one traditional Beijing craft experience (choose one):
• Seal Carving — Carve your own Chinese name stone seal under the guidance of a master artisan. Includes stone, silk box, and ink paste. ~2 hours.
• Paint the Rabbit God (Tu'er Ye) — Hand-paint the traditional Beijing folk-art rabbit deity, a Mid-Autumn cultural icon. ~1.5-2 hours.
Morning session: Total tour extends to ~6.5h including lunch time. Lunch is at your own expense. Tour ends around 14:30.
Afternoon session: Total tour extends to ~6h, dinner is not included. Tour ends around 19:00.

Good to Know
- Private Group Experience: Groups are limited to a maximum of 12 travelers. This is a fully private tour with your own dedicated guide. We never combine strangers into shared groups. Solo travelers are welcome (1 person can form a group). You get personalized attention and a comfortable pace throughout.
- Closed on Mondays: The Temple of Heaven is closed every Monday (except Chinese public holidays). Please plan your visit accordingly.
- What to Wear: Comfortable walking shoes are essential. The Temple of Heaven has large open stone plazas with little shade. In summer, bring sunscreen and a hat. The total walking distance is about 5-6 km, mostly flat.
- Cultural Experience Add-on: Choose one: carve your own Chinese name seal (~2h) or hand-paint a traditional Rabbit God figurine (~1.5-2h). Add-on cost: $45/person. Please let us know your preference when booking.
- Flexible Itinerary: Your guide may adjust the order of stops and the cultural experience based on the day's conditions. For example, shop hours, crowd levels, or weather may affect the plan. This ensures the best experience.
