Itinerary

Day 1

City Walls, Street Food & Pagoda Nights

8:45 AM β€” Meet at Changlemen Metro Station
Gather at the East Gate of the City Wall, right by Changlemen subway station. Your guide will have your bike tickets and a quick briefing on the day ahead.

9:00–11:30 AM β€” City Wall Cycling & Shuyuanmen Street
Hop on a bicycle and ride the southern half of the wall β€” from the East Gate down to the South Gate. Your local guide will share stories of Xi'an history and the City Wall's 600-year story as you ride. The morning light is perfect for photos, and the wall is much quieter than in the afternoon. You'll cover about 6km, with plenty of stops for views and photos. After descending at the South Gate, wander through Shuyuanmen Culture Street β€” a charming pedestrian lane lined with traditional architecture, calligraphy shops, and tea houses. Then hop on the metro with your guide and head to the Muslim Quarter.

12:00–1:30 PM β€” Northern Muslim Quarter Lunch & Exploration
Start your food adventure in Beiyuanmen and Dapiyuan alleys. You'll try your first few dishes β€” think cold rice noodles, guantang steamed buns, and the famous yangrou paomo (lamb soup with bread). Your guide knows which stalls are the real deal and which ones are just for tourists.

1:30–2:30 PM β€” Gao Family Mansion & Shadow Puppet Show
Step into the Gao Family Compound, a beautifully preserved Qing Dynasty residence. Wander the courtyards, then settle in for a traditional shadow puppet show β€” a classic Chinese performance that feels like stepping back in time.

Shadow Puppet DIY (Optional Upgrade)
Want to make your own shadow puppet to take home? Add this workshop experience for an extra $15 per person. You'll paint and assemble a traditional puppet β€” a unique souvenir to remember your Xi'an trip by. Let us know if you'd like to add this when you book.

3:00–5:00 PM β€” Southern Muslim Quarter Deep Dive
Continue your food journey through Beiguangji Street, Guangming Lane, and Huajue Lane. Try roujiamo (Chinese hamburger), zenggao (steamed rice cake), sour plum drink, and more. You'll also visit the Huajuexiang Great Mosque β€” a stunning 1,300-year-old mosque built in Tang Dynasty Chinese style. Stop at Quanshengzhai, a beloved local bakery where locals have been buying pastries for generations. Taste the traditional Xi'an pastries, and feel free to pick some up as souvenirs to bring home.

5:00–5:40 PM β€” Metro to Giant Wild Goose Pagoda
Take the metro across town to the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda area. Chat with your guide about Xi'an life as you glide through the city underground.

5:40–7:00 PM β€” Giant Wild Goose Pagoda & Fountain Show
Arrive at the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda in time for golden hour β€” the most beautiful light for photos. This 7-story Tang Dynasty pagoda is one of Xi'an most iconic landmarks. We won't go inside, but the exterior views at sunset are stunning. We'll grab a good spot at the North Square and wait for the musical fountain show to begin.

7:00 PM β€” Musical Fountain Show
Watch the famous musical fountain show at the North Square β€” the largest fountain square in Asia. The combination of water, light, and music is a memorable way to wrap up the day.

7:20 PM β€” Tour Ends
The tour concludes after the fountain show. If you want to keep exploring, the dazzling Datang Everbright City pedestrian street is right next door β€” your guide can point you in the right direction.

Good to Know

  • What to Bring: Wear comfortable walking shoes β€” you'll be on your feet most of the day. Bring a hat, sunscreen, and a water bottle in summer. A small backpack works better than a big bag for cycling. Bring cash for extra snacks, though most stalls now accept mobile payment.
  • Best Time to Go: Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) have the best weather for cycling and walking. Summer can get hot and humid β€” start times stay the same but we'll plan more breaks in shaded alleys. Winter is cold but the wall is almost empty and the food tastes even better when you're warming up.
  • Walking the Wall Option: If you'd rather not cycle on the City Wall, we can switch to a walking version instead. The distance will be shorter and the pace more relaxed. Just let us know when you book and we'll arrange it.
  • How to Book: Choose your preferred travel date and group size, then send us an email to book. We'll reply within 24 hours. Please book at least 3 days in advance to secure your spot. If you have dietary restrictions (vegetarian, halal, allergies), let us know when booking β€” we can adjust the food selections accordingly.
  • Group Size: This is a private tour β€” your group only, no strangers. Maximum 12 travelers. For larger groups or custom itineraries, contact us for a personalized quote.
  • Dietary Notes: All food in the Muslim Quarter is halal. Vegetarian options are available but limited β€” let us know in advance and we'll plan accordingly. We can't guarantee gluten-free options due to shared kitchen spaces.
