Itinerary

Day 1

Forbidden City In-Depth Tour & Jingshan Summit

Start: Meet your guide outside the Meridian Gate (εˆι—¨), the grand southern entrance to the Forbidden City.

Stop 1: Outer Court β€” Walk through the Gate of Supreme Harmony into the vast courtyard. Stand before the Hall of Supreme Harmony, the largest wooden palace hall in China. Pass through the Hall of Central Harmony and the Hall of Preserving Harmony.

Stop 2: Inner Court β€” Visit the Palace of Heavenly Purity, the Hall of Union, and the Palace of Earthly Tranquility. Glimpse the secluded courtyards of the East or West Six Palaces, once home to imperial consorts.

Stop 3: Imperial Garden β€” Stroll through the royal garden with ancient cypresses, scholar's rocks, and tranquil pavilions.

Optional Stop: Treasure Gallery β€” Detour to the northeast section to see colossal jade carvings, goldwork, and precious artifacts from the Qing court. (Add-on $10/person; extends tour to ~5.5h)

Good to Know

  • Private Group: Groups are limited to a maximum of 12 travelers. This is a fully private tour with your own dedicated guide β€” we never combine strangers into shared groups.
  • Booking: The Forbidden City requires advance booking β€” no tickets are sold on-site. Please book at least 7 days in advance and provide your full name exactly as it appears on your passport.
  • Closed Mondays: The Forbidden City is closed every Monday (except Chinese public holidays).
  • What to Wear: Comfortable walking shoes are essential. The Forbidden City has vast stone courtyards with little shade β€” bring sunscreen and a hat in summer. Jingshan Hill is a short, gentle climb (~15 min to the top).
  • Photography: The best panorama is from Wanchun Pavilion at Jingshan Hill. No flash in the Treasure Gallery. No tripods inside the palace.
  • Morning vs. Afternoon: Morning sessions (8:30) offer cooler temperatures and thinner crowds. Afternoon sessions (12:30) are great for golden-hour lighting at Jingshan. Both cover the same route.
  • Meals: All meals at your own expense. Your guide can recommend local restaurants. Pair this tour with our Mutianyu Great Wall Day Trip or Mutianyu Sunset Tour for a multi-day Beijing adventure.
  • Treasure Gallery Add-on: Located in the northeast section of the Forbidden City. $10/person. Let us know in advance and we will include it in your ticket booking. Tour extends to ~5.5h.
